Beban Park Recreation Centre

Named after the Beban Family who lived on the 160 acres of land from 1930s-1950s Beban Park is Nanaimo's premier recreation complex, offering activities for everyone. You'll find some of the city's key recreational facilties and amentities located here; arenas, indoor swimming pool, social centre, soccer fields, playground, tennis courts, basketball hoops, equestrian centre, community gardens, petting farm (seasonal), fitness circuit, golf course and driving range, two artificial turf fields, BMX track and a dog park.

Bowen Park Complex

The Bowen complex has 2 activity rooms, 3 meeting rooms, 1 auditorium and a clubhouse. Amenities include an outdoor swimming pool (summer), sports fields, curling club, outdoor lacrosse box, disc golf (discs can be borrowed at registration counter), tennis courts, horseshoe pitches, sand volleyball courts, two playgrounds, lawn bowling green and an outdoor ampitheatre available for weddings and other private events. There are also two covered picnic shelters.

Ladysmith Parks, Recreation & Culture

Ladysmith Parks, Recreation & Culture is bursting with recreational activities and fun-filled events for all ages!  The Department is committed to enhancing the health & quality of life of the community through accessible programs, services, facilities and open spaces. The Frank Jameson Community Centre, located at 810 Sixth Avenue, is the hub of the Parks, Recreation and Culture department, with most fitness and recreation programs taking place there.

Nanaimo Aquatic Centre

The Nanaimo Aquatic Centre is home to one of the largest wave pools in western Canada and one of the island's busiest 50 metre pools. The NAC, as it is commonly referred to, is a great destination for folks of all ages; from elite athletes for training to families looking for an active outing together. The centre is located within the Larry McNabb Sports Zone near the campus of Vancouver Island University.

The NAC is also the site of one of the city's public weight rooms and includes an impressive collection of fitness equipment.

Public rentable meeting space available. Other amenities include: on site cafe, childminding (limited hours), swim wear specialty shop, and physiotherapy clinic.

Nanaimo Ice Centre

The Nanaimo Ice Centre, or NIC, located at 750 Third Street, opened in 2006 and features two NHL-size ice rinks - NIC 1 and NIC 2.

Oliver Woods Community Centre

Oliver Woods Community Centre is multipurpose community centre. This state of the art LEED facility includes: a preschool room, function rooms, fitness studio, and a twinned gymnasium. In addition to a full schedule of recreation programs the centre is also available for public rentals and is a popular location to host birthday parties.
